NASW Spring Professional Education Series 2012 at the U of U Friday May 18th 1-4 pm Simple Yoga for Clinicians and Clients with Trauma: Yael Calhoun, MA, RS, RYT The session provides information and support materials that offer simple yoga stress management and breathing techniques as a healing tool for trauma recovery and for prevention of trauma-related issues. The session also provides yoga tools to address issues of clinician vicarious trauma. A key is to use the body and breath, when words fail, as a way to access and begin to process feelings. In addition, yoga can help people to learn to read and then to regulate core arousal systems and to feel safe in one's body. The workshop is a combination of interactive lecture and a self-care yoga practice for shapes, sizes and abilities.
Yael Calhoun, MA, RS, RYT, is the cofounder and Executive Director of GreenTREE Yoga, a 501c3 nonprofit charity (www.greentreeyoga.org), dedicated to bringing the benefits of yoga to people of all ages and abilities in a variety of settings, including: schools, prisons, community organizations/groups, substance abuse recovery centers, senior centers, and caregiving.
