Yoga helps folks with special needs

If you are looking for a way to bring calm and to build stamina for folks with special needs, watch this video and read the article just published in the Chicago Tribune: "Yoga offers benefits for people with special needs"  As one of the teachers recognizes, "The beauty of yoga is that it helps you wherever you are at," said Fakroddin.  Gadi Revivo, a pediatrician who specializes in rehabilitation, says that even though yoga is thousands of years old, it brings something new to his special-needs patients. Listen to the video and look through the article for a lot of good information and links to more programs.

    Having Fun in School!

Many thanks to Rachelle Ballard, a super GreenTREE Yoga volunteer who is doing the 5 minute yoga breaks at Newman Elementary School (CDs provided thanks to a SLCC grant!) She says, “I just wanted to tell you how much fun I’m having at Newman. I love those kids! It’s been so fun and the kids just eat it up. I’ll genuinely be sad when its over. “

We’ve go two more Family Fun Yoga programs coming up!
We will be at the Kearns Library on Monday March 12th at 7 pm and at the Tyler Library on Tues March 13th at 7. Here’s a comment from last month: “Thank you so much to Green Tree Yoga for the family yoga class. My family all enjoyed it very much. I especially appreciate some of the skills that my daughters are using – as it happens, at this very moment as I am writing this – to quiet down. My husband liked it so much he’s willing to try an adult yoga class with me. Thanks!” Rebecca Howard.”

Salt Lake School District learns to Relax!

Many thanks to the wonderful teachers, K-12, in the Salt Lake District (about 90 strong!) who attended our yoga workshop at their Career, College, and Civic Reading Spring Conference today.
They came to learn some 5 minute yoga breaks to share with their classes and to help manage their own stress. It was such a fun group — lots of good breathing and laughing and requests for staff trainings. For more on the yoga breaks, visit greentreeyoga.org or contact Yael at yoga@greentreeyoga.org for more info on how to get it into your school.

    Connect the Family!

I love Family Yoga!  It’s a wonderful way for the whole family to share some positive energy, good times, and really connect with each other.  It helps to lower the stress levels of everyone who does the yoga, all shapes, ages, and sizes.  Parents will come for the kids… and leave excited about finding some yoga to do for themselves.  If you haven’t tried family yoga, look for some at a studio or library near you. Or find a dvd to do with the group at home (a kids yoga dvd can be just the thing!).  More free ideas click here.

    More Yoga Family Fun

GreenTree Yoga Family Yoga at the Kearns Library last night was so much fun! We had many families coming to enjoy Family Night with each other and new friends. One partner King Dancer pose had 7 family members in it! There was a lot of laughter and noise — yoga in a library! But no one seemed to mind. We’ll be at Salt Lake libraries the first two weeks of Feb and March, check our website for locations. Get some books and dvds from the library and enjoy family yoga at home! greentreeyoga.org
